The Rem 700 is a proven design...Hard to go wrong with that..

Performance wise, there is very little real world difference between the 30-06 and the 7mm mag..

The 7mm is a little flatter shooting with lighter bullets, but unless you are shooting at very long range ( 350 yards plus) there is little practical difference..

The 30-06 will handle heavier bullets, which might be an advantage should you ever hunt bigger game such as moose or elk...

There may be more ideal choices for certain types of hunting, but the 30-06 with the right bullets is NEVER a bad choice for North American Game..
