I have a brother-in-law that uses one,Mdl 94 30-30.He has used it for years,it was his dads and he has never lost an elk that I know of.
I have also used the 30-30 for elk,about 9 years ago I used one for what I called the Poormans Grand Slam.I used the 30-30 for every tag I held,including Antelope,blackbear,deer and elk.

I don' t condone the use of the 30-30 for elk,I think their is better elk rifles out there,it will do the job in the hands of a very skilled hunter.If you stalk close and take neck(under 50 yds) and close behind the shoulder shots(under 75 yds) it will put them down.
