Gents,
You have to cut Sproulman a little slack. He is not a bad guy but tends to be "flighty" and just has his mind made up and so doesn't want to be confused with the facts.
The interesting thing is that many of the anti-crossbow folks are so irrational and off the wall in their statements that they tend to shoot themselves in the foot in terms of credibility. I think that it is pretty common to find undecided people becoming supportive of the crossbow after listening to debates and facts, since the crossbow position is generally more calm, rational, articulate, and supported by facts. I'm still laughing over claims that legalization of crossbows will lead to massive road hunting and poaching of deer. Can you imagine trying to point and fire a full-sized cross bow out of the window of a vehicle or trying to reload it after a missed shot compared to the traditional use of a .22 rifle? I have seen lots of reports of people arrested for poaching deer and for every instance of a crossbow being involved there are dozens of cases when a firearm or compound bow was used.
A while back Big Country was making comments that vertical bows are more challenging because one has to be standing to fire one. I then posted a picture of a guy shooting bullseyes at about 25 yards with a bow while sitting in a wheelchair. He then said that bows are more challenging because one has to have very strong upper body strength. I then posted a picture of a teenage girl that would weigh about 100 lbs soaking wet with the deer that she had just killed with a compound bow. And yet the anti's can't figure out why pro-crossbow legislation is pretty much steamrolling the opposition in the majority of cases.
