I agree he simply could've thought he missed. He could have counted 6 to begin with, fired(squinting under anticipation of recoil), opened eyes, and seen 6 white butts bounding away, and thought "dang I missed". Pissed off, he slams door, and drives off.
May have never had a bang-flop before.
Also, you'd think he would've just kept shootin at em 3, 4, whatever times if he had some angst towards them.
I shot at a doe once, out of a small herd of 4, coming towards me out of a steep ravine. I saw them go into it, quartering towards me, so I was prepared for them to exit.
When they did, I let loose on the second and biggest one with my .444 marlin.
In the following seconds 4 does nearly knocked my ladder down running by.
They were so close, my scope hindered me, and I couldn't get a second shot. It was comical.
If you remember the old "Muppet show", where the sax player in the end looked down his sax, as if it was broken. That was me.
Finally I couldn't take it anymore, KNOWING, I had to hit her.
I climed out of my ladder after sitting there for an hour further.
Went over there to see where my bullet actually went, and I found it.
Right in the chest of a large doe. She dropped instantly back into the gulley.
There was 5 deer that went in, I missed one.
