Results of BH209 Prolbems
I have been in contact with a rep from the company that makes the BH209 powder. I had a problem with the powder during the first days of ML season here in Va. I only got a Pffft everytime I installed a 209 primer in my Knight Vision using 100 grs of BH209 under a Hornaday FPB bullet. I was using a Winchester 209 primer that I have used for my NEF Sidekick for years. To my knowledge, these primers were not ML specific 209 primers and were regular shotgun primers.
The advice the company rep gave me was to use either the CCI 209M or Federal 209 mag primers. He also told me that the Knight Vision had a breech plug that was a little longer then others and could be modified if necessary. This modification was a last resort and I should try the hotter primers first.
Well I loaded up my gear and headed to the range. I ended up getting my hands on the CCI primers and loaded up. I shot the combination for a total of eight shots with no problems and great accuracy. I will be getting more of these primers and will try to build up my confidence in this powder again.
I did like the performance for this stuff and really want to use it in the woods for next year.
