Cant beat a .22LR for alot of shooting. Why are you shooting coons 75+ yards away? you can easily get less than 50 yards to coons and be fine. If you do hunt withing 50 yards get a good bolt action or semi auto .22LR, if not get a .22 Mag. If distances 75+ yards away for small small game like squirrels, coons, and even coyotes get a .22Mag. The reason why? Cuz a .22Mag can shoot 2,550 FPS with a 30 Gr. which is fast enough, will NOT be thrown by the wind like any .17, and you can also pick 30-50 Gr. for different applications. Take down coyotes with the 50 grain bullet, take down squirrels from long distance with the flatter shooting 30 grain bullets, or shoot the 40 grains ones for mid range coons. Case closed!
