You can take care of the that problem with an aftermarket Volquartsen extractor. I have a pair of 597s that gobble up almost any ammo with this mod. It's almost a must do with these rifles.
Float the barrel while you're at it and you'll have a reliable, accurate bunny thumper again. The part can be had at Midway for $19.99 and the install takes a few minutes. You can then pick up one of the other rifles recommended in this thread and have the best of both worlds.
