Thanks, both of you, I'm pretty sure I'm going to be ok on the .204, just enough length to the rear of the scope [ new Bushnell Trophy 3-9x40 ] should be perfect. However, I think I'll check into the offsets for the 45-70 because I just can't get close enough to the scope with the recoil pad. Bugs, Iv'e bought another .300 WSM to replace the Remington 700, [ a friend was going to die if I didn't sell him the 700 ], so contact me on the 4200. Would you see it as a good choice for a .300 short mag?
Would recoil be a problem?---------John
