I don't think there is a fuss per sa. But a weapon like that is a waste shooting deer at 100 yards IMO. You can do it. I sure wouldn't waste my time. You can do that 308, 243, or even 30-30. Just really doesn't make too much sense to me to take out my RUM's or my STW for deer at short range. But I don't use them for that, I use them for moose and long range shooting. Thier intended use. Free country and all.

For one to utilize the long range potential of the RUM, STW's and even some weatherby cartridges, they must practice. And they must practice at long range somewhere around 300-600 yards. I would think it would pretty slobbish to take a weapon like that and fire 3 rounds a year and then expect to sling a 500 yard shot at an animal. I know before I used to go to Newfoundland, I would go thru 300-400 shot preparing for 300-500 yard shots. Understanding effects of wind even. Because just about anywhere you go in Canada, wind is going to be howling.

I am all for people using what they want, but its nice to ahve the right tool for the job. What I notice is its usually young folks wanting these RUM for deer. I remember when I was a youngster sitting in the barbershop looking at the field and stream wanting a 338weatherby, or 8mm for deer. It was just kids stuff.
