One of my camp neighbors generally has between 30 and 50 head of beefers on his farm. Almost every year come firearms deer, they mysteriously wind up pastured right across the hollow from my cabin...instead of on the far side of the hill, across from his house.
I've seen deer travel across that pasture when there are beef cattle in it, but they don't tend to stick around there for long. One year my cousin passed on a buck first thing on opening day, because there were some cattle beyond it, but mostly they aren't a problem.
When the guy's dad was alive and owned the farm, used to kid him about droppin' a hereford heifer in deer season. One year he said go ahead, they ain't worth anything at market, might as well "sell" one to you and save the trucking fee.
