The shot was perfect according to this diagram and he still had very little penetration and you know he had alot of ke being in Africa.

However,there is alot of bone in that area and even a rib is going to cause serious penetration issues.A little higher probably would have been better.

Agreed that a very short DL will also hamper performance. I don't necessarily agree though the this head would require 70 ft/lbs of energy, but we are splitting hairs at that point.

I think we are both on the same page that if you want to shoot expandables, especially extra wide ones, you need to make sure your set up puts out sufficient energy to ensure proper penetration.

After watching the video again there is little doubt in my mind that he encountered some kind of bone on that shot. The eland was quartering away pretty hard and you can see the tail of the arrow kick forward on entry. In a rearward expanding head that can mean only one thing and that is the arrow hit something hard causing it to change direction.

They are an interesting head design, but the large ferrule does concern me from a flight standpoint.
