I agree with your Dad. The kid needs to learn to be responsible for his actions and you're right, the ball in his court now and it's up to him. That being said, he needs to be reminded every day of how important his education is. I always rewarded my kids when they done well and punished them when they didn't give the effort. Good Luck.
Thank you. Dad and I think alike and he doesn't question my parenting abilities like my mom. They are divorced for good reason. I have had to totally take her out of the picture several times through the years when it came to my son and disapline.
I agree with rewarding when children have done great and disapline when needed.
I told him today after school, if he does really good, I'll let him skip a day and we'll go hunting. He's like really? and I said, only if you do good. I want to reward him but he needs to earn it. I'll decide after the first nine weeks but not until.
