If I read Hale87' s post correctly, then he is NOT proposing carrying his plywood elk into the elk woods; rather he wants his son to be thinking in elk size terms and expectations NOT in deer size terms and expectations.
This addresses one issue that many deer hunters hoping to be successful elk hunters fail to take into account -- elk are NOT just large deer -- on several counts.
Good simulation, if you are using it as a target, then make sure he shoots it where it counts WITHOUT a bullseye marking the spot.
