I'm not saying they won't work but tarsal is a recogntion scent, and in conjunction with the urine they place on it during rub-urination, deer can identiy each other as to age, sex, health and probable social status by the odors given of from a tarsal gland.

The scent deer use to follow each other is interdigital scent, from the gland between the hooves of all four legs. It works great, and Wildlife Research has it in a bottle.
