Since you' ve already got the tap, go ahead and try to retap the things. Wet the tap with a little oil and run it down the threads. If you' ve got a tap handle, that would be great. Or just use a little wrench or pliers to get you through the hard part.

Really, at this point you' ve got nothing to lose.
