Gus - if you are worried about damaging your rifle, you can keep a spent primer from a range session and put it in after cleaning and drop the 'hammer' on it.
I do that with my rimfires (.22 lr and .17HMR). Just be sure to wipe off the spent primer with solvent or gun oil to remove any residue.
