Did you sign up for one of the many ammo rebate deals that were going on last year? I know that all of the big-3 ammo makers (Rem, Win, Fed) had rebate deals on both CF rifle ammo and shotshells. I signed up for one through Federal for a couple boxes of Fusion ammo, but never got the rebate.
Not that I really expected it, anyway. I saw a piece on TV about rebate scams (it was an investigative journalism piece, I think). They basically said that rebate fraud is rampant, even among big and supposedly reputable companies, because the rebates are farmed out to clearinghouses so the company that offered it isn't saddled with administration of the program. So a company like Remington pays a clearinghouse say $11 per $10 rebate submitted. The clearinghouse then is supposed to forward $10 to the eligable person, but a lot of times they use the fine print to screw you out of your money. They'll hold the rebate form you sent in until just before the due date, bill the company, but hold the money claiming the rebate wasn't processed in time. They're also said to intentionally "lose" rebate documents (like proof-of-purchase), and by the time the consumer comes asking for their money, they can say that they didn't get the right documents and it's past the deadline. Or they just hold the money outright, knowing that most consumers are busy people that are likely to forget, like you did, that they even submitted a rebate. Even if the consumer did remember, it would likely take a great amount of time, and possibly legal action, to recover the rebate owed. For most rebates, most people wouldn't even bother. Rebates are a shady business, and unfortunately rebate fraud screws both the consumer (who's ticked they didn't get their money back), and the business (who's got a bunch of customers pi$$ed off at THEM, not the clearinghouse).
