Dial up sucks and I haven't been using it for 6 years now. But this site is having problems and it takes quite a long while sometimes for a page to refresh. Did a traceroute and there were no packet losses between my computer and their firewall so the problems seem to be coming after the firewall.
If you are that far from the road, I don't think DSL will be an option (Most Telcos limit ADSL lines to 15,000 ft from the CO (not as the crow flies, but how long the actual circuit is). Your best bet would be to get the wireless internet from a cell provider or see if someone in your area is providing the service using radio waves (must be in line of site of tower and well within a 20 mile range). Someone mentioned that they get unlimited usage for $30 a month on their wireless which is great. For $30 in Canada I get 1gb of downloads and cost extra above that. At my cabin I use the wireless and have a small antenna on my eave so I can get a good realiable signal to my computer.
