RE: How Many Respool?
Depends on what I'm fishing for...
Most of my fishing for smallmouths, walleye, panfish and stream trout involves light or ultralight spinning gear and 4 or 6 lb. test...These light lines seem more fagile and I respool every few fishing trips..
My "heavy" gear , for northern pike fishing and casting big stickbaits for big walleyes involves 10 pound test..I generally only respool that once a year ..
I fish a LOT of light, handtied hair jigs, and I've used mostly Trilene XL and my jigs seem to fish best with a limper line...
However, of late, I've been using bulk Ande...It doesn't fish as well as the Trilene, but it is cheaper and it seems very strong for it's labeled lb.test..
All my lake trout fishing in recent years has involved verticle jigging... For this I use a superbraid ( Spiderwire) with a 4 or 5 foot mono leader.. The nonstretch qualities of the superbraid are helpful in detecting strikes and getting good hooksets at depths of 100-130 feet, where I do much of my laker jigging...I seldom respool it, and I've never had the spiderwire break...
