Well it only seems fitting with Rob/PA Boyer spittin a bit of truth on her that i share with you gentlemen that don't have the privlidge of receiving a great publication ( if your in ohio ) Ohio Outdoor News. I read an article by Steve Pollick about an evolving epidemic. He has coined the term " hornology ". Hornology is an obsession with big antler , trophy racks , and to a greater or lesser degree, if not all of us are guilty of "horn envy". But in recent years it seems the fair chase, the stroke of luck , the journey doesnt count for much. The destination in our so-called tunnel vision has no end in sight ( without a great big rack to arrive to ). Dont get me wrong i want a big buck as much as the next guy , but in that pursuit sooner or later we arrive at a fork in the road where it sometimes seems all too easy to stray from the ethical path and head down a foggy road that once traveled is irreversible. Anyways without boring you with a lengthy read that leaves you nodding off , in the end its the friends , places , sights , smells on your journey that make it great. His article made me think a bit , ive been walking out of the woods, or on here rantin about not gettin it done , or just overall not happy at points in the season because of my addiction to " hornography ". No longer .
Enjoy your time in the woods with friends and family. Cause one day
while you making grand plans fueled by your obsession with " hornography" , all the greatest things , that is the journey , the comraderie , will slip by undetected.
I, like Walt, hate the terms such as "Horn Porn", "hornology" and whatever else people use to blame someones poor choices on.
I agree that there are some people out there that let their judgement get clouded during their quest for a large set of antlers, there are just as many that don't. Antlers are not the problem, people are the problem. It's their morals that get them into trouble. Everybody wants cash. Some people work for it, some people steal it. Do we call it "cash porn" or "cashology"? No, we don't! We don't blame the cash, we blame the person. We call them thieves. Just as people who break the rules to get the trophy antlers should be called poachers.
I don't buy into this "it's too easy to stray" BS! No it's not....... don't break the law, you'll ultimately pay and you know it.
Is there really anyone out there that is truly happy with themselves and their illegally gotten antlers?
If people would hunt for themselves, let others hunt for themselves and stick with the morals and ethics that they were taught, there wouldn't be any problems.
You see? It's not the horns........ it's the people! That's gospel.
