I have always thought that 32 inches would be about the peak of efficiency, if they used the space the bolt occupies for barrel that is about what they would end up with; we did a considerable amount of experimenting back when we were building custom guns, it seems they are trying to save money by using the minimum necessary. I realize a lot of people like bolts that is a personal preference that they have a right to, I am just wishing Knight would make something I like as well as I like my Triumph. I am dismayed at what S&W is doing to TC, could be they are buying out the competition then eliminating them. Lee
i have old test book from T/C.they tested the barrel lengths on flintlocks wayback and they started with 36 inch barrel and ended at 28 inch barrel.

they said this was best on velocity all of lengths.

they said 70 gr of 2f with 490 rb in 50 cal was best load as going higher means very little.

so, i guess thats why hawkins t/c has a 28 inch barrel.
