The NEF/H&R single shots are a pretty darn good rifle. Any of the ones with rimmed casings are pretty reliable and accurate. I have had the 340 Savage as well as a pump 30-30 and still see them at gun shows. Their are still a few 788"s in 30-30 at gun shows or you could have one built for a decent price. I believe I would just opt for a 308.
