This time of year I don't shoot does no matter what color the tarsals are. Just don't want to booger up the area with a running deer and tracking and dragging.
Matt alluded to it, but there were no worries here... he had a friendly "spotter" in his guide who not only showed him the tree to get in, but was watching the approach from over 400 yards away from a block of timber and counting down the minutes until he saw them... Let's just say we were absolutely sure there wasn't anything else trailing behind.
