50/40 Test
My dogone camera won't work and momma don't know where she put the charger! Anyhow spent some time w/ the Pro Hunter 50/Thumbhole at the range Sunday. I have been shooting 110 grain measured T7 loose, winchester T7 primer and 250 grain shockwaes in an easy glide sabot. I had GOOD results. I swabbed 1 windex both sides and one dry both sides between shots.
This forum and MM forum got me all wound up and I worked w/ ISP and purchased for play:
Hornady 10mm 200 grain HP/XTP
50/40 Harvester Crush Rib Sabot
Shooting 110grain/ BH 209 measured
CCI 209 M Primers
Sunny day, no wind about 68 degrees. I did not swab between shots
50 yardline/Alcohol patch/dry patch prior to the first shot - Shooting off an Allen Rest
1st 3 shots were1 1/2 inches high and 2 inches left of my center aim. 2" between holes, I don't know if that was me getting used to the rest. However other than a POI change, it was hitting where I left it w/ the T7 loose charge.
2nd 3 shots, I made aleft to right adjustment of 6 clicks on my Nikon Omega scope. 2 touching, 1 approx. 1/2 inch right. Still 1 1/2inches high.
3rd 3 shots, Made no adjustments to scope shot another 3, all with in 1/2 inch. Still 1 1/2" high.
Immediately jumped for joy and showed black gun shooters target. Those guys always make fun of my smoke maker. Can't argue anymore on 50 Yard line.
100 Yard - still no swabbing
1st 3 shots, Dead on bulls eye all 3 shots on a Score keeper target touching.
These are the targets that go green when hit.
2nd 3 shots, dead on bulls eye all 3 shots, paper is broken into each bullet hole, 2 of them into each other. I can just make out the second bullets outline.
I did not get out to 200 yard because the range shut down on me.
On the last bullet I stuffed down the barrel, Ifelt some roughness in seating the bullet, but felt like I could keep shooting w/out a swab.
I am noit sure where the Nikon will take me at 200 yards seeing as it is not a 150 grain T7 load? I would feel more comfy if i could have shot the 200 mark. Anyone got an idea based on this report???
Clean up was a couple swipes w/ a Hoopes #9, alcohol swab, dry [patch both sides (some habits hard to break) Rem oil. The breech plug was dirty but some scrubbing dealt w/ that.
I will never go back to T7. I am not of the caliber shooter or experimenter that some of the peoo[ple on this site are . But, I love that BH209, the bullets.I liked shooting w/out swabbing in between.I now know the gun is shooting, now I have to do my part in the woods.
