The last thing I want to do is drag 50lbs of guts out of the woods and I don't think I could hoist a deer by myself. I just drag them far enough to be on an incline so I can just dress them and flip them over to dump them out.
The deer seem to be harder and harder to drag out as it is and I DON'T think it's cause they weighmore. It's an age factor...(sigh)
Tell me about it. I remember when I used to grab hold and just start walking, bow in hand, stand on my back and deer in tow. At age 65 I walk up 50 yards and drop my bow and stand. I go back and drag the deer to the bow or beyond if I'm on a roll. Then I get a break by carrying the bow and stand up some more, back for the deer, up to the bow, move the bow and stand, back for the deer. I am just whupped when I get out. Old age sucks sometimes.
It used to be I'd go anywhere that I figured I'd shoot a deer. I didn't care what the terrain or how far. Now when I look at a place I calculate how much trouble it'll be to get a deer out.[&:][:'(] Too much trouble I go somewhere else.[&:]
