RE: The Kill - Revisited .......
I know that there is a high percentage of people each year that buy a tag and go out in the woods just to "kill" something. Some even leave the freshly killed carcass because they don't want it, they just wanted to "kill" something. They saw off the antlers for a trophy and leave the rest. This is what gives true hunters a bad name. I set out each time in the woods not to "kill" something, but to "harvest" it. Like you would harvest corn, or oats, or any crop. Hunting was originally a means to obtain food. For some that is still the mainobjective, unfortunately, for others their direction has derailed and their psychological dysfunctions have overtaken to the point where killing something is their main objective not the harvest of meat, the experience of the outdoors, or the respect for nature. Now I do not mean to offend or scold anyone for their actions, intentions, or individual feelings...but I feel that when we use the word "kill" it implies (although not always intended) that we are homicidal and angry individuals. Personally, and again I mean to offend no one this is just my opinion, I think we should all adopt the term "harvest" instead of "kill" for hunting animals. So I guess the question is where does your enjoyment come from...the fact that you just succeeded in a hard endeavor to harvest an animal and you are proud of your accomplishments and relished the experience...or the fact that a living animal is now dead and that is what you take satisfaction in, the fact that you are "better" than that animals and you are so macho for killing it that you're going to hoot, holler, scream, and dance around to show it that you are so great????????
Again, just my thoughts feel free to disagree
