RE: Colorado unit 56 bow Elk?
While I have never hunted unit 56, I can offer a few suggestions. First is be in good, no great shape. You will be in some steep, high country. I would also get to the area a few days early to acclimate to the altitude. Salida is a wonderful little town and would be a good stopping point for a few days before heading up the mountians. As for what elevation, it will most likely be warm during that time, so the big guys will look for cool places to hide, such as high elevation and the dark timber. North sides of the ridges is a good place to start. I hope this helps and if I can be of any other help, I will be happy to try.
