I have never heard of a hog call, not saying they don' t exist. I like to spot and stalk, though stand hunting is fun too, like most hunting of any type.

I have a few thoughts for first time boar hunters:

1. Use at least .264 caliber cartridge
2. Use a heavy for caliber bullet
3. Use a bullet with controlled exspansion
4. A boars vitals are just a little farther forward than deer and a little higher
5. Boar can take multiple hits from large caliber guns and show little sign of being hit.
6. Think twice about a barrel over 22"
7. Be prepared to make fast and repeated follow up shots
8. Avoid too much magnification on your scope think
9. Think twice about a single shot (i.e. items 5 and 7)
10. Make your first shot count as always
