RE: PA antler restriction
Ok... now that you have refuted the countless points of view from nearly everyone on this forum, I ask you this... What do "you" think should be done to increase the quality of the antlers, health of the herd, health of the habitat, hunter satisfaction and whatever else "you" can think of to make our hunting conditions greater than what they are now.
I am asking you (bluebird) directly. I am not asking you for more twisted rhetoric that you have taken from others and manipulated tofulfill your needfor discrediting what so many others have with their "own" experience found to be beneficial. I am not and have not ever claimed antler restrictions alone will increase the health and quality of the deer herd. It by itself will not produce impressive bucks. However, antler restrictionswith a well thought out and properly implented doe harvest, habitat, quality food and mineral supply will.
Also, how can you say bigger mature buck do not breed more doe than yearling small racked buck. Doe breed with buck who will increase the liklihood of ensuring the survival of the species. A buck with a larger rack will stomp or gore the crap out of any adolescent buck attempting to breed the does in his territory. How many times have you seen a spike buck breed a doe when an 8 point is in vicinity. She won't stand stillfor a little buck if she has a chance to breed with a bigger buck. I can confidently say I spend more time in the woods than most, including you. I hunt all year round when nothing else is in season I hunt coyotes. I see deer interact on a weekly basis and NEVER witnessed a doe breed with a small buck when she can breed with a bigger "mature" buck.
Bear with me here... I am going to attempt to put this in perspective. Doe act very similar to hen turkeys during mating season. How many hens do you see following around a jake? How many do see with a longbeard gobbler? Why do you think that is? Do jakes get to breed? SURE! But not nearly as often as a Longbeard. Some bucks live to be 6 yrs old and are scrub buck their whole life because of inferior genetics.Maybe this will help.. would you rather sleep with a good looking woman or one with a cleft palate, hair lip and a lazy eye. Which would you prefer to have a child with? Why? You want your offspring to bear the same traits, right?
