Have you tried a honey burn? I have done this with good results. The larger bears sometimes circle the bait out of sight and wait until darkness to feed. Sometimes this will be just enough to pull him out alittle earlier for a shot. I have heard of others using anise, bacon greaseand some other stuff but I have just tried honey so far.
