I guess we have both had similar experiances except yours was with a rifle and mine was with a shotgun. Me and my grandfather were hunting with a group of people running dogs. Me and him were sitting about 200 yards from each other and a couple guys down from him. Deer ran across a field and one of the guys down from him decided to take a shot at the deer. He might have been killed had he not been siting behind a huge oak tree. The pellets hit the tree he was sitting behind , hit the cattle fence he was sitting next to, and continued all the way up to where I was sitting and past. Thankfully neither one of us were hit. I was about 350 yards from the guy that made the shot and could have easily been hit had I been standing just a little more in front of where I was.
Needless to say that' s a big reason why i do not like running dogs and big drive hunts. That was the last time.
Yes I took physics in high school. I also know the odds of being hit are much greater when you have more than one projectile flying through the air. Yes this thread is about slug only areas but just about anywhere that a shotgun with slug is legal so is buck shot. At least the places I have hunted.
I Ohio you are not allowed to hunt with buckshot for deer.
