With a creek already running through your land, digging a pond may help the cows, but the deer probably utilize the creek for water. It may be a waste of time and money.
the food plot would be a real good idea. As for keeping the cows out? Use the method you do to keep them in the pasture, Put a fence around the food plot. The deer will simply jump it. No problem.
