The 300 win mag is not my choice for a whitetail gun...but it is more than capable. Just pick your bullets wisely.

We have a fellow that comes down from Canada every year to hunt in WV with us. He shot a big 9-pt this year with the same bullets he uses on moose. I have pics of the hole it left...looked like he hit it with a mortar shell...(Can't remember what bullet he used)

That said, I really like the Browning A-bolt. However, you may want to shoot one first. The recoil with some 300 win mags is more than noticeable.
