I' m more of a fan of bi-pods for what you' re considering. That way, you always have it with you, and don' t have to carry it separately. Harris makes a bench model that' s rather short, and telescopic, so it would give you good options on how/where to use it.

Also, you might be careful when shooting off of your truck hood, if you have a " starburst" in your windshield, you might turn it into a " spiderweb" . The concussion wave of your rifle' s muzzle blast has to go somewhere, so if you are shooting straight across your hood, as opposed to nearly straight in front of your truck, the wave will hit your windshield, a couple buddies of mine found that out the hard way in years past. Pretty funny when it happens to someone else, not so much so when you' re writting a $300 check for new glass.
