Yes there are.Problem is,DCNR is onlyallowed to cut 70 acres at a time. When you horrible, overbrowsed habitat like we're faced with,a relatively small number of deer will quickly wipe out any preferred regeneration. That's why they fence. There's a big differance between managing habitat that's not overbrowsed and managing habitat that's been overbrowsed for decades.
you are right on 1 point,DCNR will not cut or do a little cutting to benefit deer.
on your comment on deer overbrowsing,IF SUN DOES NOT HIT GROUND,ONLY FERNS WILL GROW.
you know that.
read my observation on SGL252 in lycoming county.
best habitat you could ever have and very few deer.
we are OVERHARVESTING our deer even in best habitat .
onstateforestland, even with best habitat,if hunters in crews go from area to area like i am seeing, no way hunting deer will ever improve.
if only 1` tag was allowed and you had to leave woods after getting your deer,no driving deer, no using buddies tags in gangs,no brown its down with kids tag thing now happening,
i think, maybe, just maybe deer could come back a little.
but when you see crews last year with 20 hunters only getting 7 deer all week and some 1 deer, makes you wonder if any suggestion will work.
