They look pretty neat. but I'm not sure if they're a gimmick or not since regular Maxiconicals are known to expand very well without aninsert.
But what is potentiallyuseful about themis that theyoffer a different length and weight bullet to try out in rifles of various twist rates when compared to the TC Maxi's and other conicals.
Ifwe comparethe 275 grain .50 Widow Maker to the 275 grain TC Maxi Hunter, the Widow Makeris longer andtherefore mightactually perform better ifinserted intoa.54 sabot.
So the Widow Makers do offer an alternative to try out,to obtain better accuracy out of some barrels, and to reducetheamount of felt recoil against all of theothermuch heavier-for-caliberMaxi's.
Also, if thelighter 205 grain .45 Widow Maker doesexpand faster than plain lead TC Maxi's, thenit might be a more effectiveperformer ongame smallerthanthe average size deer.
Compared to the 133 grain .45 round ball, it's probably better on deer. But it's doubtful that it would be asgood ondeer compared tothe 240 or the 255 grain .45TC's.
Becausetheir price is pretty expensive after shipping, you're lucky that you can buy them locally. Not too many peoplewould order them just to experiment, unless they really want to try something different and are willing to risksome money for a chance toimprove performance, accuracy and range.
