How many use a back tension release? Do you think it helps?

I just bought a T.R.U. Ball chappy boss. It has the caliper head that swivels 360 degrees. I like the release but I am having some trouble getting use to it. How long did you use a back tension release before you felt comfortable enough to use it a 3D or tournament setting?
