They definately do work very well. I have a CSS from meanv on mine, and it'll be standard equipment on every bow I own that doesn't come with one. It allows you to pick up some speed by taking the leeches off your string. It acts just like a finger on a guitar string.

As to the weight... its minimal... maybe3-4 ounces.
