Default String supressors??

I am only asking because I don't know. Do the "Mean V" or STSstring supressors really make that much of a difference? I shoot a new Reflex Ridgeline 32. When I shoot it, I think I hear string noise. However, my buddies say my bow is pretty quiet. Is it normal to hear some string because I am so close to it as opposed to somebody or a deer who is at least 10 ft away? I have heardfolks debate overthe "Mean V" vs. STS & seen the Mean V web site. I am intruiged, but am wondering if it is just another gadget to buy & make my bow heavier. Any input would be great!
