Bottom fishing means no bobber, fish just like he said.
And pretty much anything under the water will try to eat craws and minns. I like fishing minnows hooked through the nose, with no sinker (free lining). For crayfish, you could also try ripping off the tail, pinching the meat out of the exoskeleton/shell, and fishing with just the meat on a jig under a bobber. This is how I fish perch on Lake Michigan and also time to time for other panfish on inland lakes.
