If it works for you, I say go for it! Is it possible that your bow was tillered for 3-under? That would explain it being quieter (the only difference I know--bows will shoot quieter if shot for the release they were tillered for).

I' ve tried it a few times--not enough to give it a real chance though. I seem to get a better release/less finger pinch shooting split, and I just hate swapping up.

I don' t know of any disadvantages, other than some tournaments require longbows to be shot split-finger.
