Yep, hickory is really good for a beginning bowyer. It'll let you get by with a lot of mistakes. Yew, mulberry, oak (red is okay but white's better), ash, yellow locust, pecan, walnut and maple all make good bows.
Any of the above you listed would be ok for a self bow Arthur? The main wood I have is Red Oak, Ash, Elm, Maple, Pine. Whats the best of what I mentioned and why? Thanks Art!!
Personaly I would go with Ash first and back it.
