Default RE: New Remington VTR Rifle

Just brought a 700 VTR in .223 home today. Been a lot of talk/interest about this rig on several different boards. I know that these rigs will shoot as a friend of mine is getting sub moa groups at 100 yards with "el cheapo" 55 gr Winchester "Wal Mart specials". Not to mention shooting 5 shot strings hovering around 1 1/2 inches at 200 yards!

A lot of discussion about the integral break on the rifles as well. It does make the rifle somewhat louder but in return alleviates all dust printing out front of the muzzle. Makes the little .223 nudge straight back into your shoulder with no muzzle rise as well. Having carried bolt guns for a living (and still do),I can tell you that in shooting my friends I have fallen in love with his. That prompted me to take my own home.

As for the 1-9 twist barrels, as in the AR's, they will handle down to the 52 gr. well and absolutey shine with the 68-69 gr BTHP Match bullets. I have a scad of .223 loaded with 68 gr. Hornady BTHP's and given a break in the weather will head to our departmental range to break in the new barrel. Stay tuned for range report! Afterwards, gonna head out and try to dust a 'yote or 2 with her!

FYI, Remington is offering the VTR in .223, .204, .22/250 and .308. The latter of which will take the aftermarket HS magazine conversion kits for those that want a mag fed .308. These rifles are gaining a lot of notice in the law enforcement world as well for a cheaper alternative to the 700 PSS/700 XCRand looks to give the 700 SPS Tactical a run for the money.

Again, stay tuned for further "from the bench"!

Dawg Dustr out!
