Well, I did the freezing then boiling. It worked very well on the plastic inserts on alum arrows. It didn't work nearly as well on the aluminum inserts. So, I would deduce that it was the expansion and contraction of dissimilar materials which made it work. Just thought I should post results.

I think a soldering iron onalum inserts would make them much hotter and would work better,
