This misunderstanding mainly stems from patterns and choke issues. As steel shot is a lot harder than lead,it produces a much tighter pattern as oppesed to lead shot from same choke. In other words-steel shot fired thru a modified choke will give full choke patterns,thus with steel shot,use a more open choketo safely acchieve desired patterns in DESIGNATED steel shot approved chokes/barrels.
