RE: How many deer?
It did depend on the specific county that you were in here in PA. Up until this upcoming season there were basically two areas....special reg areas (around Philly and Pittsburgh) and the rest of the state. Most, if not all of the counties in the special reg areas had unlimited doe tags while the rest of the counties had specific allocations of doe tags dependent on herd size estimations. Here in my home county of Lehigh we have had the opportunity to apply for the standard buck tag which comes with the license....one regular doe tag and up to two " bonus" or " surplus" doe tags. That is typical for most of the state provided allocations do not run out after the first or second round of doe tag allocations.
So, it could be as little as 2 tags..a buck and a doe, for some counties with low levels of deer and plenty of hunters or as high as..as many as you can apply for in the special reg areas but always just one buck tag per licensed hunter.
That is going to be changing for the 2003-2004 season though...as I understand it. We are going to wildlife management zones that are somewhat geographical in nature. They will overlap into different counties.
