Default RE: Help a Brother Earn some brownie points..

top reason is greed...... historically in southern easternManitoba there is alot of poachers. Most do it for racks, that they can't connect on during daylight hrs (easily). I know of several poachers that would shoot bucks only and sell the racks to outfitters mostly in the states to put up in guest houses...... but that was in the 80's.

Second reason is food........ I personally know of a cpl of guys that shoot WAY over their limit. Each deer is tagged just not with theirs. They kill for the elderly and for those on welfare. I refuse to turn these guys in...... although won't hunt with them or near the land where they hunt. They do it for pleasure but the main goal is to feed friends and family. Recipients of poached deer get meat for less than .50 cents a pound where it isn't possible to get that at the market.

Like I said historically there is alot of poaching in southern MB...... the Red River Metis people were paid as well as kept meat from killing buffalo that the US gov't wanted exterminated as part of their Indian control programs in the 1800's. Louis Riel, the famous Metis from Manitoba was one of those poachers..... and was eventually hung b/c of his political views and actions. type metis rebellion in google and find out more.

Need more info just PM me, I'm more than happy to help
