Well, I' ll readily admit that I think speed is over-hyped. Can it hurt? All else being equal...I don' t see how.
What I do see, however, is folks rushing to the pro-shops to buy this year' s latest & greatest models for that extra 10 or so fps...throwing all else to the wind. When I think of what makes a great bow, speed is pretty far down on the list. For others, it' s the be-all end-all of archery...and that' s fine really. I suppose it keeps a lot of bow manufacturers in business every year.
What' s really sad though is when people seem to think they
need some fire-belching screaching-fast bow to kill a deer. Folks were blowing through bigger critters than whitetails for many decades before Allen ever left the hardware store. Unfortunately, too many people by into the " speed is king" marketing hype every year.
Every summer when someone runs into me at a 3D, sees my recurve, and asks, " Can you really kill a deer with one of those things?" , it' s saddening to me a little. It really makes me ask myself what has happened to this sport.
