RE: Does taking a P&Y equal hunter ability?
The measure of a good hunter is impossible to write down in words that would apply universally to everyone in every location,
Lots of P&Y bucks? Might be a good indication but, just as easily it could mean that the guy could simply have lots of $$ to buy his way into or create some primo hunting spots.
Now, a guy who consistently brings home substantially better than average (read that: mature) deer in any particular area would be a better indication.
Another indication might be one of those "lucky" guys who is out in all weather, comes early and stays late and hunts for the whole season.
An even better measure IMHO, is the guy who will hunt all season, in all weather, early and late and will tell you at the end that he had a good season but he didn't kill although he had several opportunities and just didn't get to close the deal on "that buck" or for that matter "that mature doe"
