Default RE: Shinning Deer

i dont, but thinking of starting.

i dont because i dont wanna "get my hopes up" or see a biggun and chase him all season and getting my butt whopped. around here, certain times of the year deer will travel a mile or better for food. roads mean nothing to the deer and they walk and wander pretty decint "home ranges" not uncommon for someone to see a buck on road A and 2 nights later he is spotted a mile or more away on road B. not the rut, not the dead of winter...just a wandering buck...so i havent really used the tactic...

though my buddies do spot and my buddy farms...i use them as my info sources...if they are seeing good bucks in a certain field and im not seeing much in my areas, i will move if possible..they know if i tag my buck, i will be back in rifle season to push for them..so they give me good reliable info readily.

one thing i might do this year, is use my coon hunting headlamp to shine the fields by foot. alot of out fields cant be shined due to corn against the road or the terrain/road layout...but i CAN spot them on foot with my headlamp..

alot of the "big buck hunters" around here scout by spotting...if i see certain trucks hunting somewhere, i know they must saw one of the bigger bucks there spotting. but they miss alot of them because of the road/terrain and corn and trees blocking their vision...they got so frustrated one year, a couple got caught driving in the fields trying to spot the deer
